Here you will find photos of students engaged in the learning process! I use different mediums to make sure that I am able to reach kids with a variety of different learning styles. Students work collaboratively in order to master the standards set forth by the school. I also allow time for independent work as some students thrive better with individual thinking time. I use word walls, anchor charts, thinking routines, and STEM activities to reinforce learning. I have experience with Lucy Calkins reading and writing workshop, GoMath, number talks, NGSS, ISTE standards, and common core state standards. For my COETAIL final project, I successfully implemented the student-paced learning model for a Geometry unit.
I have a lot of experience using Fountas and Pinnell to benchmark students. This helps to guide my instruction for conferences and small reading groups. I also confer with students during their writing, speaking with them about things I notice that they are struggling with. In addition to Fountas and Pinnell running records, I use NWEA MAP testing to pinpoint students strengths and concerns. After a testing session, I sit down with students one-on-one and help them formulate goals. Students who set their own goals feel empowered to take ownership of their own learning. In 2021, I was able to plan and execute the 5th grade PYP exhibition. Students were able to pick a topic that they really wanted to inquire about and spent the next six weeks on a journey of discovery and enlightenment. Students conducted interviews, surveys, and hours of research. They were then able to present this information to the community |
